INFORMATIONS ABOUT PALEOCHORA

Paleochora (or Paleohora) is the westernmost seaside resort on the south coast of Crete.

It is 70 km from the city of Hania and to get here you need something less than a half hour.

Paliochora stands on the south coast. Not because it is built on a peninsula extending into the Aegean Sea, but because it is the most complete resort of the southern coast of western Crete.

​

The Paleochora is one of your choices to stay, if you are thinking to spend your summer vacation in southwest Crete and especially in the southern part of Chania.

Of course, do not expect to find that you will find in Chania.

The Paleochora is Chania or Platanias and Agia Marina, in terms of the world or entertainment crowd. But one or two levels above any other village on the south coast of west Crete.

The many different beaches of Paleochora and crystal clear waters is another reason why many choose it for their summer holiday on the south coast of Crete.

​

On either side of the settlement, there are two sandy beaches. The sandy Pachia Ammos at the west side and the pebbled beach in eastern Rubble.

​

Apart from these two beaches in the surrounding area you will find many different beaches.

Large or small bays. Sand or pebbles. Organized or not. Some look to the east, some to the west and the other to the south.

​

On days with wind you can choose. If you enjoy playing with the waves, prefer beach with waves. Conversely, if you prefer the quiet sea, choose to go to the one facing the opposite direction of the wind.

​

All the beaches are easily accessible by a continuous promenade. To the west, the road leads to Krios beach, while in the east the road becomes a dirt road all the way to the wonderful beaches of Gialiskari or Yianniskari.

If you hear the name Anhydrous, be aware that this is the same beach at Gialiskari.

The calling and called Anhydrous why are south of Anhydrous village and these ends and the gorge of Anidri.

If you love nature and hiking, do not miss the chance to walk the European path E4 passes from Paleochora.

 

Whether to Elafonissi on the west, or to Lissos and Sougia east.

Finally, from Paleochora you can take the morning bus and visit the Samaria Gorge.

After crossing will end in Agia Roumeli, from where you take the ferry back.
